Romeo could have just as easily expressed his love for Juliet the next morning, but he decides to risk his life to declare his love that night. Romeo tells Juliet he got into Capulet property “[by] love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls” (II.ii.71). It is not possible to fly over walls, bur Romeo thinks that love gives him supernatural powers. He truly believes that with love it is possible to do anything. Both Romeo and Juliet know their families are enemies, but Romeo’s “name, dear saint, is hateful to myself” (II.ii.59). Although Romeo has grown up a Montague his whole life, he uses the word hate to describe his family. Romeo’s emotions are causing him to make rash decisions about his family, as his name has granted him a rich, luxurious life. Juliet’s professions of love as well as her acknowledgement of the situation are both intelligent and cautious in Act II scene ii. After Romeo swears by the moon, Juliet tells him not to exclaim his feelings tonight, for “this bud of love…/ May prove a beauteous flower when next we meet” (II.ii.129-130). Near the end of the scene, Juliet decides that if Romeo’s “love be honorable/ thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow” (II.ii.150-151). Juliet does not want to enter a vain relationship.
