Da Vinci Code Book Report
...seum while the police left to follow the tracker. Sophie Neveu is apparently the granddaughter of Saunière, they had a shaky relationship and Sophie refused to talk to him in the recent past. Meanwhile, Silas goes to church that Saunière said the keystone was, Sister Sandrine welcomes Silas but is very suspicious of him. Bishop Aringarosa is the one Silas is working for. Langdon discovers that Saunière used an anagram that translates into Leonardo Da Vinci! The Mona Lisa! It seems like Saunière purposely wanted Langdon and Sophie to meet each other. Another message is revealed on the glass covering the Mona Lisa, “So Dark The Con Of Man”. It refers to a campaign by the Catholic Church to get rid of female-worshipping religions which was opposed by the Priory of Sion, a secret pagan religion rumored to have members as famous as Leonardo Da Vinci. Langdon says that the Priory of Sion was made to protect a secret, the location of the Holy Grail. They also found a key behind the painting as well, which has an address on the back where they head to next, which is the Depository Bank of Zurich. With the key they got past all the security but they were noticed as fugitives by the guard. The president tries to help them, as he does not want his bank’s name on the news, Sophie and Langdon find out with password to the vault via the message given by Saunière. The vault gives way to a security box that has the symbol of Priory of Sion on it, Langdon and Sophie hear bubbly noises coming from the box. Inside the box is a cryptex, an invention by Leonardo Da Vinci to protect a message, and requires a password to open it. Langdon decides to go visit his friend Sir Leigh Teabing, a renowned religious historian known for his work on the Grail. Teabing invites them inside and he tells the true story of the Grail to Sophie, he says the Holy Grail is not the cup from the Last Supper but actually a person, a woman. Teabing says Jesus was married to Mary and that they have a bloodline that could be around today. The Holy Grail is where Mary is buried. Meanwhile, Silas after receiving tips from the Bishop arrives at Teabing’s estate and is creeping around outside. Finally after Teabing gets upset, Sophie reveals to him that she has the keystone and Silas intrudes in after this. Langdon looking at the cryptex finds a contraption but Silas hits over the head to knock him out cold. Also the police now is coming to the estate after tracking the van they took. Teabing quickly attacks Silas with his cane and they quickly tie him up. The three cleverly trick the police and run to the barn to get into one of Teabing’s luxurious cars, a Range Rover, Teabing’s butler, Remy navigates them through the forests. They get onto Teabing’s plane and prepare to decipher message on the cryptex and it reveals some sort of poem. Sophie also tells Langdon about a sexual ritual she saw years ago, which is why she never talked to him again. After analyzing the poem they figure out the password to be “Sofia” and after opening the cryptex they find yet another piece of paper with a poem on it, that refers to a knight buried in London. After once again escaping the police, they make their way to the Temple Church to search for an orb the poem refers to. Silas also is at the church and holds them at gunpoint for the cryptex and Teabing and Remy leave the scene. Sophie and Langdon after visiting a library realize that the knight is in reference to the tomb of Sir Isaac Newton. They go to the tomb and discover the Teacher has been there before and meet him in the garden to discover that he actually is Teabing who reveals why he did all this treachery. Langdon buys time by giving a fake password and the police come to apprehend Teabing, Langdon and Sophie open the cryptex and it directs them to the Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. Sophie realizes she has been here before, where she finds her grandmother and her brother. Sophie and Langdon discover that Sophie is of the bloodline of Jesus and Mary. The grandmother tells Langdon one day the location of the Holy Grail will come to him, and it does as he falls to his knees in front of the Lourve museum, looking at the pyramids outside. REACTION: It hasn’t been since childhood that I have read a book that I could not put down like the Da Vinci Code. I find a lot of peers, including myself, do not like reading because the beginning of books are generally boring. This was not the case for the Da Vinci Code, it started fast and kept at the pace for the whole story. Although it seemed almost exhausting at times keeping up with the entire fast paced action. An avid reader could quite ...
