I.”, and Hannay is told that, that is the only clue they have, when asked how it got to Bullivant’s possession Hannay is told that a soldier was carrying it with him while he was about to pass away due to gun shot wounds, and that the soldier was his son. Once he arrives at his door Bullivant seats him and starts talking to him about how he can go over and beyond the call of duty and that he has been selected over a vast amount of soldiers to carry out a mission of utmost importance and that he will have to select a party of his most trustworthy subordinates and search the Middle East for something which will be nearly impossible to find, Bullivant continues on telling Hannay that what he is looking for is information about a holy war forming somewhere in the east and he is to find the “spark that will ignite the fire”.
