The Pasture
...h of a mile long, and on the edge of that sits a small forest. To the side of the pond is more flat land, broken only by a small creek barely trickling through the pasture and the few trees around it. The pasture has a rhythmic feel to it. If blindfolded and set down in any area of the pasture, many people might not know where they are, but after living around a place like this for such a long time, people begin to notice small things, such as the type of trees and grass growing around them, that make each part of the pasture unique. If you were to listen closely, you could begin to notice a sound fammiliar to nearly everyone growing up in rural Nebraska. The sound of wildlife...natue. Birds pierce the air with their cheerful songs of life, while the occasional squirrel rustles through the leaves. The breeze carries with it the scent of camp soil as it brings the trees to life with a soft chatter. Anyone could get lost in their own mind trying to separate the sounds. The pasture is also a place to just sit and think. I someitmes find myself next to the lake, skipping rocks almost mechanically, while every other ounce of thought is ...
