...lly religious and just had sex “by the book” so to speak. Meaning, once they were married they weren’t afraid to “get down and dirty.” They thought that it was immoral to practice any sexual activities before marriage, but it was a blessing to have a sexual relationship once you were married. The Puritans could take great pleasure in holy sexuality and in the romance of marriage simply because they refused to separate God and their spouse. In their eyes, you couldn’t do anything to separate the love of God in their hearts. “They could love their spouses simply because they loved the Lord with all their hearts, souls, minds, and strength. In such a case there is no contradiction between loving your wife and loving God. Indeed, part of loving God is loving your wife.” I believe that the Puritans had the right idea as far as sex. If America believed some of the things that the Puritans believed, I’m sure, we wouldn’t have a lot of the problems that we have today. Nowadays, Americans values of sex is a lot different from the Puritans views on sex and morality. Today sex is expressed very openly in our society. As far as television, I think I can sum it all up just by saying, “sex sells.” On a lot of television commercials there is women, dancing around, with only a little bit of colthes on. Not just on commercials, but on some shows as well. The problem comes when little children see these shows and they think that it’s the right thing to do. As far as music, I notice when I watch a lot of rap and hip-hop videos women are exposed as sex objects for men. Also some of the lyrics isn’t a good thing for little children to hear, when a lot of the rappers are their idols.
