In 1930 General Motors bought two new companies; Electro-Motive Corporation which constructed the heat engine railcar and the company Winton Engine, that supplied E-M C with engines. Both companies were together given a new name, which was General Motors Electro-Motive Division. The following 20 years locomotives and trains driven by diesel were largely replacing other forms of railroad transportation in America. These locomotives and trains were of course produced by GM. A little fun fact is that GM was the first American Corporation that made over $1 billion in a year. VISION General Motors has throughout a long period of time based its ideas on being the world leader in transportation products and services that is linked with transportation.
