Speech on Journeys
(In this particular speech, my persona is that of the actual compiler of the collection, which is also their first published work) Good morning all, and thank you for sharing this unveiling of what I am proud to announce as my first official published piece of work. ... Ladies, gentlemen and respected guests I give you my collected works entitled “Physical Journeys”. ... I feel like I can shine some light on a few dark patches within your mind and its thinking, and hopefully with my little appetiser you will be convinced, as much as I am, that physical journeys are worth noticing so that you can travel as smoothly as possible in future journeys you take part in. Now we all know that journeys are everywhere. ... On journeys challenges will rise in front of us and some may seem impossible to overcome, however this is a choice you make, you can choose to give up or you can persevere and attempt to conquer them. ... During the course of my collection I have studied over the concept of choice accompanying journeys more than anything and have realised the true enormity of our choices and the strength that is demanded in order to make them. ... This is a somewhat unique text in the way that it produces complex ideas on journeys and the choices within them using a consistent first person voice through the eyes of a fourteen-year-old boy. ... This, like Huck Finn, has a more than obvious symbolic reference to journeys and their choices. ... You cannot get a more precise symbol of choice depicted in journeys and its lengthy process, which is why it is so prevalent in the description of choices in many texts. This text, like all that I have chosen due to their importance on the topic of physical journeys, reflects the notion that decision-making can be a long process, and a very important one, that is also demanding and requires courage. ... These are the components of texts that may go unnoticed but I identify them accurately so that its relevance to our own journeys is distinguished, and taken as good advice. During all our journeys we are faced with a decision of what path we want to travel down and we are usually confronted with a sense of loss because we couldn’t travel down them all.
