Homosexual Adoption in North America
...ns that homosexual parents raise homosexual children. There is no reason provided by the opposition that can not be satisfactorily refuted. It is acceptable for single women to adopt children which doesn’t provide the child with a male role model. Allowing two women or two men to adopt a child together also only gives the child mentors of one gender, however the parents will be in a committed relationship and the child will have two caretakers, as opposed to one. The argument seems simple. Those who oppose homosexual adoption, however, feel differently. Allowing homosexuals to adopt is legitimizing their relationships and accepting of their lifestyles. As a culture founded on Christian morals and values, that is unacceptable. Children raised in homosexual households would be the target of bullying in school and extracurricular activities. If adoption is primarily for the well-being of the child, placing them in homes that would draw negative attention seems contradictory. Wouldn’t it be more prudent to place the children in homes that are socially accepted? Also, by putting a child into a homosexual household, you are exposing them to a variety of sinful behaviours and influencing them in their developmental years. The sexual behaviour of the parents will have a strong impact on the behaviour of the child when they reach adolescence. This could result in sexual confusion and irresponsible behaviour. The homosexual subculture is also notoriously promiscuous. Parents who frequently party or sleep provide a poor environment for a child to be raised in. With homosexual unions in place in Canada and a bill proposing a redefining of the word “marriage” on the horizon, gay couples are fighting to be treated equally with heterosexual couples, both socially and legally. Homosexuality is more accepted now than it ever has been in North America, and arguably the world. All of these changes have yet to be introduced into the adoption argument in a significant way. A suitable compromise would be to allow homosexuals with legal unions to adopt. While it is unlikely that a promiscuous partier would attempt to adopt a child in the first place, seeing a legal bond between the prospective parents will ensure that they are no more willing to separate than a heterosexual couple.
