According to Racial Justice, a July 2001 Gallup poll reported that 55 percent of whites and 83 percent of blacks believe racial profiling is widespread. In a recent study by a private consulting firm Blacks and Hispanics were reported to be searched or asked to exit their vehicle twice as likely as whites. In addition, recent study using Department of Transportation statistics the Chicago Sun-Times reports that in the Chicago area minorities are pulled over at a rate two times that of whites.
