About a boy

...n, and he wants to do almost everything to help her get better. He is a boy with an awful lot of thoughts, and he is very clever. In spite of all his problems, he is a boy with lots of courage. The story takes place in London. Will has everything in life, except a wife and children. The characters in the book meet when Will decides to join the single parents group (SPAT) in order to hook up with some lonely, single mother. He hasn’t actually got a child of his own, but he solves the problem easily by inventing a son called Ned. Trough the SPAT meetings Will meets Suzie, a single mother with a little girl. One day Suzie invites Will and his imaginary son to a SPAT picnic. At the picnic Will meets Marcus for the first time. At first they are a little sceptical about each other, but this loosens up when Will decides to cover up for Marcus’ duck-accident. After this Marcus changes his opinion about Will and thinks of him as quite cool. Will and Suzie drive Marcus home after the picnic, and when they arrive at Marcus’ place they find his mother Fiona in a pool of her own vomit. They also find an empty pill bottle and understand that Marcus’ mother has tried to kill herself, but luckily she isn’t dead. After the dead-duck-day Marcus begins to visit Will after school. This becomes a routine, and they develop a relationship neither of them has ever experienced before. After a while Marcus invites Will to celebrate Christmas with him and his family. In spite of some disagreements concerning Wills imaginary son, this turns out to be the best night ever for both Wills and Marcus. Will meets a woman named Rachel at a new-year party. After quite a few lies and discussions, Rachel becomes Will’s girlfriend. Marcus also meets a girl, Ellie, and she really fascinates him by being a true troublemaker. She cuts her own hair and uses black lipstick. Ellie and Marcus become good friends, and soon Marcus falls in love with Ellie. Ellie, however, does not respond to Marcus’ feelings, so they decide that they’re better off just as good friends. Over the months Marcus gradually changes from being a weird, different and shy boy, to becoming a boy who slides into the crowd as a normal teenager. Will change ...
