...ar than the white race, environmental conditions from where they first origionated may have made them stronger than the average white person as well. A point which was brought up in the reading as to why this physical dominance in only certain sports is evident may be because of environment. African Americans come from a place where their might not have been a whole lot of water - which limits their ability to become swimmers, in comparison to the Australians, who live surrounded by water - and swim quite well. Canadians produce many hockey players as opposed to Africans. Canadians live in an area where the winters are very cold - there are many lakes and access to water which freezes in the winter is not hard to come by. African Americans live in an area near the equator where the weather is hot. Ice doesn't form on lakes - I am not even sure if there are many lakes. Many think that the black athlete is simply hungrier than the white athlete. The black athlete is often viewed as someone from the projects who sees no other way to get out of poverty.
