The boys think that it is the beast, so they kill him. That night, Simon’s body is washed out to the sea. The next morning comes, Samneric are collecting some wood for the fire, while Piggy and Ralph discuss about Simon’s murder. Piggy tells Ralph that it is just an accident because of Simon’s crazy behavior. Ralph always has to be reminded that the fire is a necessity. Piggy gives Ralph his glasses to start the fire. They are tired by pulling some wood, finally they decide to give up the fire for the night, and go to the shelter. They are woken up by the unusual sound. They think that it might be the beast, but it becomes Jack and his tribe searching for something to start the fire. Piggy thinks that they want the conch; in fact they attack into the shelter to fight for Piggy’s glasses. Analysis of Chapter 9-10 In chapter 9-10, we can see the savagery is stronger than in the beginning. In the beginning, Jack appears to be a sinister figure. After Ralph orders him to be a hunter for their food, his savagery slowly appears. It depends on the environment. He creates a tribe, and being a chief. There are many boys following him. He paints his face and carries a spear. The painting on his face shows how the savagery is and the spear is the use of tool as a weapon. We can vividly see some people who live near river; such as Mississippi, Congo, before the civilization is built, all of them paint and carry some weapons. They have no social norm.
