In those times, they were primarily focused on confirming their social status. In today’s society there are more options for people in regards to education, jobs, and opportunities. In modern day society, I believe that most individuals obtain a college education to confer their personal social status. Those who end their pursuit of education at high school, in my opinion, are often just confirming their status. They often graduate high school, find a job with almost nonexistent qualifications, and continue on with life at the same socioeconomic level that they always have been.
