Shouldn’t we be encouraging our children to be competitive in the learning area instead of the materialistic one? The issue of bullying has sprung up due to mobile phones. Not only can phones be used to text mean anonymous messages, but with recent advances in technology phones can now be equipped with cameras that can even take short films. Melbourne's Herald Sun reported that 95 percent of schools have been forced to ban mobile phones to protect students' privacy, following a spate of bullying activities involving mobile phones with cameras. The report stated that camera phones have been used to photograph students while in the toilet, change-room or shower and then distributed to other students with similar phones. Bullies shouldn’t be allowed yet another way to intimidate their peers. We all know that growing up is difficult enough without having to deal with embarrassing camera phone photos. Mobile phones are expensive, attractive pieces of equipment that many people are tempted to steal. This temptation is creating criminals out of the students who don’t have phones and are under the peer pressure to get one. Mobile phones aren’t only being stolen in schools though, but also as they leave. Students have been attacked for their mobile phones just outside school gates.
