The Jews soon found themselves being driven away where as a minority they lived in the Diaspora. In the middle ages (500 – 1500), the antisemitism for the Jews grew. The Jews were hated in Latin Christendom for various reasons but I believe, due primarily because the Christians feared the Jews would bring them down. The Jews soon were hated and treated with such hostility because of their differences that the Jews were accused by the Christian majority as being the killers of Jesus Christ. It was this religious myth, deicide accusation, the killers of God, that created a hotbed of hysteria, fear, hatred, and ignorance toward the Jews. And it was from this hotbed in which many more myths were cultivated. Soon the Jews found themselves to be the scapegoat for all other misfortunes. In the 11th century, as the towns became more populated so did the need for more businesses and homes. It was necessary to provide an economic means for people to obtain finance and credit. Who would best be able to provide this financial service? Since the Church associated money lending to evil, the Jews, who in the Church’s eyes were already sinful, were allowed to be the moneylenders. In 1144, a third myth began in Norwich England.
