...style leads to what the author actually is: a loner. In her recent flight to Nungwe, she the author makes a vivid description about her take off. As if she is one with the plane, she states she has never left the ground without feeling uncertain or exhilarated. These two descriptions and the context that she and the place are together, gives the idea that the author is passionate towards her work, and adventurous with her uncertainty of what lies ahead. The depictions give the reader a feeling that she is caring, and heartwarming person, which, on the other hand, seems to be contradicted during her opinion about giving oxygen to a dying man. She gives an idea that the message sent to her to deliver the oxygen probably took two to three days, which in the case of the man in need of oxygen, would have probably died unless he had this superhuman will. Rather than being hopeful for the man’s survival, the author is negative towards the man’s situation, proving that she is not exactly caring of other people- adding towards her individuality and probably to the fact that she is ‘alone’. . When the author flies over the skies during the dark hours of the night, she feels, though with or without communicative instruments, a sense of solitude; the latter being dramatically different type of ‘alone’. Without the ‘cold companionship’ of these instruments (or people), she questions the existence of human life as she dramatically describes the landscape as a desolate, bleak, and infinitely dark void- as if she was describing space. “The Earth is no more your planet that it is a distant star- if a star was shining; the plane is your planet and you are its sole inhabitant.” The author seems to juxtapose what she sees below and above her cockpit window- the sky at night is completely desolate with the exception of the stars, the Earth the same.
