...belief that they should pray five times a day it would be logical to say that if they don’t pray during school hours they would miss a prayer. Religion must be allowed in our county’s public schools. The United States was founded on the belief of religion. Our fore fathers came over from Europe to escape religious oppression by the King. While creating a government for the new country our founding fathers did not want to have a theocracy. They saw what it had done to other countries, but they still kept the aspect of God in the Nation’s documents. The 1963 Supreme Court decision of the Abington Township School District v. Schempp stated that, "the Founding Fathers believed devotedly that there was a God and that the unalienable rights of man were rooted in Him...." but to avoid the repressive pressures of past governments, they specifically, intentionally, and deliberately did not include their religious beliefs in our laws (Ferri). The word "God" is mentioned in our Pledge of Allegiance, and in the Declaration of Independence. In the Constitution, the mention of religion is in the First Amendment. In most public schools in the United States children recite the Pledge before classes no matter what their religious beliefs are. Not once in any of these documents does it ever say what religion the god belongs to. School prayer is essential in schools today. Children learn a lot from their peers and teachers. Educating means not just teaching what is in the text books but also ways that will make you better person and ways to live in the world today. Religion would teach morals and give kids a sense of security that is well needed in our society. If students start the day with a prayer, then they will behave in a more spiritual and ethical manner during the day. Children these days do not have the respect for their peers or elders like their parents generation did. People of different faiths sometimes need to pray a certain number of times during the day. For example Muslims are required by their religion to pray five times during the day. If prayer was not allowed in public schools they may feel alienated or different when they did pray in school. Also this is violating their religious beliefs by limiting their ability to praise their God. Religion is all over our government today. For example our money has God written all over it.
