The new museum building was erected at the very center of Shanghai in September 1994. Its unique architectural form of a round top with a square base, symbolizing the ancient Chinese philosophy that the square earth is under the round sky, is a distinguished architectural combination of traditional feature and modern spirit. The new Shanghai Museum has ten special galleries of bronze, calligraphy, ceramics, furniture, jades, minority art, paintings, sculpture, seal carvings, coins and arts and crafts. Shanghai Museum has installed advanced security and fire alarm systems, educational services, a computerized library and an automation system. Describe a museum. I just came from Vancouver and I must say I had a fantastic time. There¡¯s so much to see and do in the city. But if you get a chance to go there, there¡¯s one place you mustn¡¯t miss, and that ¡®s the Museum of Anthropology. It was certainly one of the highlights of my time in Canada. The museum was actually established way back in 1949 and these days it¡¯s one of the most popular in Canada. It¡¯s worth going there just to see the building, in fact, because it¡¯s stunningly modern and dramatic ¨C it¡¯s hard to believe it was built back in 1976. One very good thing is that the museum¡¯s all on one floor, which makes it easily accessible for wheelchairs. Another plus is that it¡¯s in the most beautiful setting, overlooking the sea. And inside, you can see archaeological material from all over the world. It¡¯s not a large museum, so it¡¯s quite easy to find your way around. When you arrive, you come into an entrance lobby with a small shop on the right, where you can buy guidebooks and some interesting souvenirs. Then, if you walk straight ahead, you¡¯ll go down a sloping ramp until you come to a kind of crossroads with an information desk. It¡¯s worth spending a few minutes there, ¡®cos the staff are very helpful and you can pick up various useful maps and leaflets. If you turn right, you¡¯ll eventually come to the theatre. Describe Chinese Traditional Architecture/an old building Si He Yuan (Beijing Courtyard/quadrangle: a compound with houses around a square courtyard) A small or medium-size siheyuan usually has its main or only entrance gate built at the southeastern corner of the quadrangle with a screen wall just inside the prevent outside from peeping in. A notable feature of the courtyard house is that the complex is fully enclosed by buildings and walls. There are no windows on the outside walls, and usually the only opening to the outside is through the front gate. Such a resident offers space, comfortable and quite privacy. It is also good for security as well as protection against dust and storms. Grown with plants and flowers, the court is also a sort of garden. All the quadrangles, as product of feudal society, were built in accordance with a strict set of rules from their size and style one could tell whether they belonged to private individuals or the powerful and rich. One of the most striking aspects of Chinese domestic architecture is the practice of making houses face south. My Dream House Let's pretend money is no object and build the home of our dreams. My design begins with the overall structure of a three-storey house. I love pavilion style roof. Beneath the roof is a cozy attic, where I can enjoy my private time, reading, meditating or whatsoever. I would have as many windows as possible, which are designed to make the rooms bright and ventilated, although I guess the cleaning and upkeep of these windows could be demanding. The sitting room is spacious, with huge closets, bookcases and lots and lots of room storage. I want the ceiling shaped like a dome with a big crystal ball lamp hanging on the top. There must be a huge balcony with a great view to look out of, say a huge green park or the sea. And there have to be a French window to accompany it. Maybe I am thinking wild but I do think the surroundings must match my dream house. The bedroom is on the second floor. I don¡¯t like the smell and touch of paint, which looks dull and cold so I would use wallpaper, the light pink colour. And there must be a lot of cushions. I love cushions. They are warm and soft. I would want my house to be friendly, a nest where my friends could come and relax and enjoy. And I would like a huge front porch with a swing and room enough to have tea in the afternoon. Describe a restaurant / a coffee bar you like most. This restaurant is not eye-catching. It is actually in the middle of several rows of residential houses, kind of isolated. However, it is still quite popular among the local community and most of the customers are regulars. The first word bumped into my mind when I stepped into this restaurant for the first time was ¡°nostalgia¡±. There is a big old rusted gramophone in the centre and on the walls there are many black-and-white pictures of Shanghai in the early 20th century. In the evening, the candles are used instead of lamps. And the uniforms of the waitresses are cheongsam. Everything looks so unusual and you are like going back to the history. This restaurant serves a wide selection of food from Shanghai local ones to exotic western cuisines like sushi and pizza. One major reason why I recommend this restaurant is that the food portion is very generous but the price is reasonable. I love the seafood and the snacks. Their service is also very impressive. The waitresses are efficient and friendly. It's also a cozy enough nook to sit in and play chess or get that necessary fix of caffeine while hanging with friends. The restaurant owner is a woman in her 40s. She has long wavy hair and a very attractive face¡ Describe an emblematic building ¨C Oriental Pearl TV Tower The Broadcasting & Television Tower of Oriental Pearl is the world's third tallest TV tower after the 553-meter CN Tower in Toronto and the 535-meter Moscow TV Tower. It is situated in the Pudong New Area, facing off the classic beauty of the Bund. With a giddy height of 468 meters, the tower is Shanghai's landmark and a big magnet for tourists. Every visitor will undoubtedly be overwhelmed by its beauty. The designers magically designed eleven beautiful spheres of various sizes and three big columns together to represent pe...
