... pregnancies actually shocked people. Crime was not tolerated. And the war on drugs didn't have to exist. People as a whole, still had morals to live by. They cared for one another. This was the norm. The world had changed so much now, I believe for the worse. We've progressed as far as technology goes, but have declined on our moral scale. Crime rates have risen tremendously since my mom was a child, leaving me in a world where if I keep my door cracked over night, I'm almost certain to be intruded upon. People are caring only for their own happiness, leaving others miserable. I feel the only way I can believe there is any kindness in the world anymore is to care myself and keep in the company of those who also care. I wish my view of the world could be more optimistic, but society teaches us only to care for ourselves. I grew up in poverty, which is why maybe my desire to help those less fortunate is so great.
