... access to information on the net is not only access to the right and the best information. There are lots of false information too and often if children have to look for some information on the net they do not bring very useful information because for finding the necessary things you have to be a very good reader. But the classroom should be a good place to teach children how to use the possibilities of the internet in a useful way. “Chatting is a big application for kids” means that they start to do it very early, at about 10-11 years and it is often the only thing they use the internet for but there are also some risks in chatting online, for example you could be tempted to neglect your real friends because it is easier to chat online and write instead of speaking, I think that could be a problem especially for shy people, because they hide in this online world where nobody could see them and so it is very hard for them to stop it after they have got used to it. The internet can be used successfully for English studies because for example you can do online grammar exercises like filling in the right forms of verbs and these exercises are corrected at the same time so you know right after filling in the word if it is right or wrong and these quick correction might have a psychological effect on you compared to a homework you get back corrected by your teacher a week after you’ve written it. Online dictionaries are a very useful tool because you find the right words rather quickly and another reason why I prefer online dictionaries is because I’m writing and reading a lot in American online groups and the users there often use slang words which you can’t find in a common dictionary, but you often can find it online. It’s also very nice that you can practice your English by chatting with other people online in english because then you will get to know new words very easily and don’t forget them because you have to use them daily.
