fairytales speech-Aladdin

...ever having money to finding luck and having money and then going back to having no money and proving to be happier. Another key value realised is that “honesty is best”, Aladdin meets princess Jasmine and falls in love. Aladdin believes he must give the impression that he is rich for Jasmine to love him, so he continues to deceive Jasmine ignoring Genie’s urges to tell the truth. Jasmine later learns the truth about Aladdin and although she is hurt, disappointed and angry she still loves him. That conquers another value, “Love can conquer all”. The third major key value that is represented in Aladdin is the “goodie, badie” concept. “Nice Guys always finish first, good guy always wins” This is explored in both the original story and the animation of Aladdin. In the animation, the sultan’s adviser, Evil Jafar tries to expose Aladdin throughout the story and ruin Genie in a deceitful and sneaky way; however the Genie and Aladdin both succeed in the end ending up with what they want in the end and Jafar gets nothing. These values are represented dominantly in the animation in a way young children, adolescents and even adults can relate to. I studied two different cultural versions of Aladdin. An original version set in Muslim Arabia which was called “Aladdin and the wonderful lamp” and the retold, most modern version, the animation “Aladdin” which was produced in 1992. Aladdin is a very appealing narrative, especially the animation. It not only appeals to children, but the humour and values help adolescents and adults relate to it also. The narrative is successful in the way it is perceived as it has key factors and themes that are appealing to the public. These themes include; Prejudice, which is a perceived opinion, like or dislike that, may injure someone’s rights. Greed; The excess desire for something, Envy; the desire of discontented longing aroused by others better fortune, Gluttony; a persons insatiably eager, Lust; a passionate desire, Ambition; a desire distinction or a specific attainment. Desire is a key factor of all these themes, surrounding it as, “An unsatisfied longing for something” Aladdin produces all these factors, though desire is the stand out factor that is shown throughout the movie. Aladdin’s desire to have a better life and to have Jasmine, Jasmine’s desire not to marry a prince and to lead a normal life, Jasmine’s father the Sultan’s desire for Jasmine to get married and the Sultan’s adviser the Evil Jafar’s desire to be sultan. The two versions of Aladdin are quite different with small factors but the key punch lines and plot seems to be the same. With the beginning, middle and the end of the story being similar in that Aladdin starts of with nothing, then finds a magic lamp, ends up with Jasmine, though the evil Jafar tries to intervene throughout the story and genie just wants to be free, but in the end Genie, Aladdin, the sultan and Jasmine all end up living happily ever after, a traditional end for a fairytale. The original storyline wouldn’t be as enjoyable for young children as it has stern and blunt terminology, where as the animation is thoroughl...
