Relationship between Gilgamesh & Enkidu

To begin with, descriptions and language of Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s relationship described that passion between them is more than just friends; I believe together they have a strong bond as brothers rather than just being sexual. For instance, when they killed the Bull of Heaven, “Then Gilgamesh and Enkidu together went hand in hand, two brothers, to the Euphrates” (Ferry 35). However, they kiss often, and in several parts they embrace together when they are on their journey to the Cedar Forest. This not means that Gilgamesh and Enkidu love each other like a husband and a wife, which seem to look like a sexual relationship. I still believe Gilgamesh and Enkidu show their perfection to each other as brothers than sexual. For example, after Gilgamesh rejected Ishtar, the Gods cursed Enkidu to die. Because of Ishtar’s jealousy, Gilgamesh and Enkidu’s bond grew stronger. As Enkidu became sick, Gilgamesh never left his sight, as Enkidu was part of him, his own flesh and blood-his brother. “Why am I left to live while my brother dies?” (Ferry 38) Finally, no matter what kind of relationship Gilgamesh and Enkidu have, women still play an important role in the Gilgamesh’s epic.
