Marine ecosystem

...he tourist’s numbers increased, for example in 1985 there were about 1.1 million visitors who went to the Great Barrier Reef and in 1995 there were more than 10 million. Things that affect coral reefs  Bleaching-discoloration or loss of symbiotic zooxanthellae. Pollution, global warming, and ultraviolet radiation have been suggested as causes Map of Bleaching (Spalding 2001 p. 58) In this map we are able to see that coral reefs all around the world are in danger of coral bleaching.  Silt-erosion from land development, can bury coral or make the water murky, both of which block the sunlight necessary for coral growth.  Heavy fishing-alters the fragile balance of animal life within the coral reef system.  Excess of nutrients-caused by agricultural runoff/ dumping of sewage, increases growth of plants/ plankton, which block sunlight  Divers-they damage coral by breaking off pieces to be sold as souvenirs.  Oil Spilling-most common type of pollutant, usually in drilling areas (Strait of Malacca, Arabian Gulf, gulf of Eden, Panama Canal, etc Future Predictions: Environment I believe that marine ecosystems will someday be at the verge of extinction, because the use of toxic pollutants and climate change are affecting marine animals. We can see that now days, for example coral bleaching is a disease that is affecting and destroying a lot of coral reefs, this leaves animals without an ecosystem which results in the death of organisms. Human beings also need to take responsibility for their actions because due to over fishing, oil spills, global warming, green house gases and many more factors animals are disappearing. I not only mean marine animals but animals in the whole world regardless of where they live. Rain forests are being cut down to built cities and for lumber, water and air are being polluted, and many more. Something that keeps me hope is that some countries have taken action and protected their coral reefs, hopefully many more countries will follow and there will be no loss of diversity. Political I believe that when countries realize how valuable coral reefs are they will fight about them an...
