...proposed by previous bills will not solve the overpopulation in prisons, but by production of more facilities before the hiring process commences, housing issues and tension of early release can be relieved. Many would be willing to pay extra taxes, including myself, for protecting and properly rehabilitating offenders. Most rehabilitation programs currently in progress are inefficient and lax toward the offenders on probation. Verbal interaction, drug testing, and following up on offenses to probation are a few examples of things not being done in many current programs. Procedures used in Fort Bend and El Paso allow previous reprobates to work during the day, lock them down at night, and give treatment and education to help them return to society with a renewed outlook and hope. Enforcing these procedures upon all rehabilitation facilities would alleviate the return of some probation offenders. It is of the utmost importance to protect law-abiding citizens and properly rehabilitate criminals.
