...o doubles with violin) Track 9: Electric guitar (7-string). Harmony and Rhythm. The song is in B minor. It always sounds “minory” and often scary. It is very emotional and invokes sadness in you. It sets the scene very well if someone was sad, dying or lost, hence the title. A The song starts off with a flute melody. There is a choir and slow string ensemble playing the chords. It sounds very peaceful. A1 The drums, double bass and tenor saxophone come in. It makes the song seem much thicker. The saxophone and bass are doubling the flute. It is very effecting in thickening the sound. The drum beat is just a slow rhythm on the floor tom and a soft crash symbol. It is unobtrusive and inoffensive. It could be called a “melodic drum beat.” The song sounds like it is starting to build up to something. A2 The piano and violin come in. They double with the flute, except on the long held notes where the violin plays the 5th. The melody is now becoming very thick and full. The piano and violin also give the song much more texture. The drum beat changes to a standard beat. It hits the crash on 1 and 3 and the snare on 2 and 4. It is still playing a melodic polyrhythm on the floor toms. The second melody compliments the first one and sounds like it is building up to something. On the last minim of the last bar the guitar plays 4 quavers of a B power chord. It is getting louder every strum. It is also a very heavy and powerful B because it is a seven string guitar and the B is very deep. It builds up very well to the heavy section. There is also a slight bit of dissonance in the last half of the last bar. It helps the piece to unify in the chorus. C The guitar comes in. This section is very heavy and scary sounding. It uses the 1st 3rd and 2nd of the B minor scale. Every instrument plays except the violin and the flute. The saxophone is playing a simple melody. The piano is playing a different melody. This is a very complex, interesting and intriguing melody for technical reasons. It is a polyrhythm and is actually playing in 6/8 inside the 4/4. What is...
