Knitmedia was founded by Mr. Dorf and started as a company of friends, with 20 employees at the beginning. Today it occupies about 200 people who work in various locations around the country. The central offices are located in LA (Hollywood) and New York, which are also the clubs that the company owns, where various events and shows are organized. The company’s mission is to deliver unique entertainment products through innovative online and offline channels to millions of consumers from both the "jazz" and "downtown" markets. Furthermore, the strategic goal of the company is to expand their operations in the national and international market targeting local music markets. Knitmedia main activities are: • Event Organising (parties, Fashion Exhibitions, etc.) • Sponsorships taken by other companies (like Bacardi, etc.) for the various events • Marketing activities (Flyers, T-Shirts, Tickets, etc.) • Clubs (LA, New York) • Record Labels • Publishing activities (Magazines, brochures, etc.) • New Media – online content management Knitmedia’s organisational structure is divided in all four synergistic lines of business: four recording labels and publishing company, a number of sponsored music festivals, video and audio production facilities/live venues, and the new media & content development department. Knitmedia started as a company of friends where the team spirit was one of the main factors that lead it to its success. People in Knitmedia work as a team, focusing on the qualitative customer service. So, people are a competitive advantage for the company and so is the formation of “right teams”. We must not forget that teams do not differ from professional teams like football or basketball teams. The contribution of teams to the company has many advantages such as shared knowledge, pluralism of input and enthusiasm. In this way, team communication, team learning, flexibility and efficiency is achieved. In addition, a different person can be appointed as a project leader in every project implementation in order that leadership is learnt and communicated to all members of the team. Team mates start believing in them and in their team mates and trust one another, so they are more enthusiastic and willing to cooperate, exchange new ideas, learn and communicate their experience and knowledge to others. In order that the company expands its operations in a national and international level, Knitmedia should try adding more decision centers of management (regional managers) as well as supervisors of National and International Markets (National and Abroad Managers) and new teams to its organizational structure. The span of control will function as supervision to the commitment of teams and to the goals achievement check. In addition the formation of new teams will help to the knowledge exchange and with the Management real contribution (active part of the team work not only in process but in task too) and help, people will not feel supervised or controlled. Furthermore, communication between Management levels is also crucial at this point as new teams are created and new markets are explored and reached; new clubs created in various locations and further marketing and publishing activities are needed. People are the competitive advantage of the company, so the effective use of them, through teams, is a priority. In order to achieve the team effectiveness the following issues must be considered, planned and followed carefully: • The change of organisational structure because of the expansion requires the improvement of communication channels. • Schedule regular team building relationship activities – events, sports and management games which encourage better acquaintance, communication and...
