This diagram is very professional with an anterior and posterior view with trigger point label on the diagram. The second diagram on page 76 is very graphic using a picture someone rubbing their muscles with an overlap of glass shards. The author used very graphic font on the title page and headings to appeal to the audiences by depicting the font as if pain is like “shards of glass” (Cunningham, 2005, p 71). In addition, the article provides information about the fibromyalgia syndrome that not a lot of people are aware, therefore, the purpose is to provide information to the general public. A Review of the Evidence for the Effectiveness, Safety and Cost of Acupuncture, Massage Therapy, and Spinal Manipulation for Back Pain is classified as a scholarly journal. The tone of the article is serious and sober. The format of the graphs is very professional with a lot of details with no flash fonts. The article does include citation from different sources and provide the credit of these sources on the reference page 905- 907. The language is specific to the medical field and assumes its readers would have some background knowledge of the topic being discussed. The audience for this article is intended for others that are in medical field. In addition, the format of the article is of a research paper where the topic is thoroughly investigated and reviewed by peers before the article will get published. Before the article will get published the research papers would have to endure specific and rigorous criteria that are set by the association and the research paper would have to meet or exceed the criteria in order to get published. The author of articles is also an indication of whether the topics discussed in the article is creditable. The education background of the author would give an indication to its readers whether he/she has done the appropriate research and is experienced in their field of study and their work is recognized within their profession. Creditability does increase if the author of the articles belongs with a professional association that is related to the research topic. She has written more than 300 articles on alternative and conventional health and medicine for magazines, newspapers and Web sites. She also is a contributing writer for Fibromyalgia AWARE, a trade publication for physicians and other health practitioners. Prior to her writing career, she worked in hospital and long-term care administration. Deyo, MD, MPH is a general internist who is a Professor in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Health Services at the University of Washington. After residency training in internal medicine, Dr. Deyo completed a fellowship in the University of Washington’s RWJF Clinical Scholars Program, during which time he also received a master’s degree in public health.
