Ivanhoe has to fight against the Norman knights to help King Richard I. Ivanhoe has to work to gain his father's respect and also to win his beautiful Rowena. The rising action of this novel begins with a confrontation between the Saxons and the Normans. The characters Bois Guilbert and Prior Aymer represented the Normans and the characters Wamba and Gurth represented the Saxons. It is revealed that the character Cedric, has disinherited his son Ivanhoe. Cedric disapproves of Ivanhoe’s tolerance of the Normans and also disapproves of Ivanhoe’s love for Rowena. As the action continues, Ivanhoe shows up at a tournament at Ashby-de-la-Zouche disguised as the Disinherited knight. He beats all the Norman knights in the tournament and wins the beautiful Rowena, The climax begins with Ivanhoe being wounded in this tournament and being cared for by the Jewess woman, Rebecca. Ivanhoe and all of Cedric’s party are captured and taken prisoner by De Bracy’s men and held in Torquilstone castle. The De Bracy’s men are defeated and all the prisoners are set free except for Rebecca. She is accused of being a witch. Ivanhoe comes to her rescue and defeats her captor, Bois...
