... be Done Northern Region Support Centre needs to address issues relating to planning the organizations future; its mission statement; human resources issues and financial management issues. Northern Region Support Centre is the leaders in the field of treating child abuse and they have an excellent reputation in this area. NRSC needs to hire a new executive director for the organization since Mr. Campbell is resigning at the end of 2002. NRSC does not appear to have a mission statement that reflects this reputation or that mentions their leadership skills in the area, or even know the importance of it. Also, they do not have any strategic planning done for the future to keep up with the changes happening so fast around them. NRSC needs to break the dependency of its current funding with United Way. United Way restricts NRSC’s ability to do any additional fundraising activities. NRSC is prohibited from soliciting donations directly from corporations in the Northern Region that appear on the United Way's restricted list. This list includes most major corporations based in the Northern Region. In addition, all United Way agencies, including NRSC, are prohibited from performing any fundraising activities during the months of October and November because such efforts would conflict. These are too many restrictions that United Way is imposing in NSRC. In order to be free from United Way’s controlling system, NSRC needs to have more than a part-time employee working on its marketing. NSRC needs to keep track of its clients. Analysis of Alternatives / Recommendations NSRC needs to do some strategic planning in order to clearly define the purpose of the organization and to establish realistic goals and objectives consistent with that mission in a defined time frame within the organization’s capacity for implementation. It needs to communicate those goals and objectives to the organization’s constituents so they can develop a sense of ownership of the plan. Ensure the most effective use is made of the organization’s resources by focusing the resources on the key priorities. Mission statements are useful things but they are just words. What is critical is not the word on the page but the process of development which gets management, like the CEO at the top into some union and alliance and which transfers ownership of the end result to the front-line workers, like volunteers, therapists, even patients. A development of the mission statement increase everyone's understanding of the goals and objectives of NSRC; clarifies the major concepts of NSRC to improve long-term focus and day-to-day consistency; builds shared values and beliefs among all levels of people; better communicates company intentions to patients, volunteers and employees. At is most basic; the mission statement describes the overall purpose of the organization. At NSRC, board members are not aware of their mission statement. I think the first step is to call a meeting with the board members and revise the mission statement they currently have and make sure it is suitable to the changes within the organization. Financial statements should revise its financial statements; Mr. Rich mentioned that he is having difficulty getting information necessary for his decision making. Betty Sheer should be fired and another person with more experience in marketing and raising money for not-for profit organizations should be hired. NSRC needs to keep statistical information regarding its clients by gender, type of abuse, where they reside in order to assess that kind of programs they should offer to the community. Implementation Plan NSRC needs to hire a new executive director, right away. Board member needs to be aware of what this organization is all about.
