AS the gospel was proclaimed, the people put their faith in Him (v. 30). They believed what He said and did. John 3:16, Rom 10:9, John 7:31 2. The second condition is continuing and abiding in God’s Word. The idea is that of dwelling just as a person dwells in a house. God’s Word is the believers dwelling. Continuing and abiding in the Word is not just a Sunday thing. It is a 24/7 task. III. There are 2 results to being delivered. 1. The first is the true believer will know the truth. The truth is God’s Word. Jesus spoke the truth. Jesus is the truth. John 1:14, 17, 3:21. 2. The second in the true believer will be set free. We cannot deny that freedom from sin is better than the bondage that it brings. A true believer can feel the truth deep inside of them. And with this freedom will come a change, a change that everyone can see. Conclusion It is a small thing to be called Christians; but it is a great matter truly to be Christians. A certain person says he is a disciple of Christ; but you would never know it if he did not tell you. You might live with him for years without hearing an expression or remarking an action which is distinctly Christian: this is not to be a disciple indeed. Another man loves his Lord, and treasures his words; he puts his discipleship of Christ before everything, and you cannot live with him...
