.... Monet felt that nature knows no black or white and nature knows no line. These beliefs resulted in this artist creating beautifully colorful and energetic pieces of work. The leading member of the Impressionists, Claude Monet captured the impulsiveness of nature's wonderful light. He was also incredibly creative and today many museums and private collectors possess and enjoy his work. Monet has paintings in many, many galleries and museums all around the globe. Most of his galleries are found in Europe or America with only two galleries in Australia. The galleries are in Canberra and in Melbourne and the artwork can be viewed by the public. Monet uses a new spontaneous approach to his artwork. The flickering effects of the sun and other sources of light seem to be more important than the realistic detail. This is apparent in his paintings “white water lilies” and”impression sunrise”. Fresh, pure colour has been thickly applied with obvious brushstrokes to create a brilliant, sparkling effect. Monet shows in many of his artworks an interest in atmospheric effects. Impressionist art is based on the use of colour, which has to "draw" the motive without resorting to line.
