...ve come to realize that Taiwan has a unique culture. I have always loved going back to visit because of its variety of lifestyles. In places like Taipei, where there are many buildings and chic restaurants or shops, there exists a feeling of a rushed and business-like lifestyle. In rural towns like my hometown, there is a more laid back and simple feeling. There is much natural beauty to be found in Taiwan regardless of the pollution that exists in some regions. It is in my best interest to keep every part of Taiwan as it is now. The restlessness that exists within Taiwan’s own government proves that Taiwan cannot remain as it is. The hundreds of missiles aimed across the Taiwan Strait prove to be a constant reminder of the thin line it walks on. Being such a small country compared to China, Taiwan is easily less of a priority to other countries. One of my biggest goals is to spread awareness of Taiwan’s situation in the United States. Since the United States is currently the most powerful country in the world, its least bit of political aid would be a large impact on Taiwan. This program would not only teach me how much political recognition Taiwan really gets within our own government; it would also teach me how to gain the political recognition Taiwan needs to keep its democracy and freedom from being destroyed.
