King Arthur: a king like no other

...wo sides and cool their turmoil. Arthur had true patriotism in wanting Britain to be united. Arthur’s desire to win the two battles in order to gain control of his country so he could then restore order and stop what had been going on shows his true loyalty to his country. Although Arthur is indeed Christian his sister Morganne le fey is pagan and he holds true to both sides by fighting and keeping Excalibur. The sword joins the two religions at the edge of it, where Arthur’s reign meets Avalon. Avalon representing the pagan side and Arthur’s reign representing the Christian. Arthur also created peace among the two by implementing his round table of worthy knights. As shown later on in the acceptance of Morganne’s son, Arthur did also accept pagan knights into the round table. With the realization that there are “two sides to a person, the bad and the good the might and the right” (white 49), Arthur mastered the knowledge for might and right and showed his true readiness to become king. Arthur figured that if one harnesses and directs the might to do what is right then the problems of society can be fixed. With his demonstration of this ideal in implementing the round table and the chivalric code, Arthur shows the country a state of order and a desire to use the knights skills for good purposes, and to harness their wanting to “whack around their swords” (49) as well as giving them an outlet to only strike on the behalf of what is good. The insight that Arthur gained and demonstrated on the subject of might and right, through out his reign, sets him apart from all other kings that had gone before him. Arthur’s outlook on war and using the knights want to wage war in a good way was a unique way of thinking back then and further more sets him apart.
