The Style Of Dressing
... wear, except for the socks that is, those always seemed to come right off. Both of my parents are from India, and when I was born they were still relatively new to the U.S. In India there really was never the issue of dressing guys in certain colors and girls in certain colors. Any one is able to wear any color without being looked at differently. My parents didn’t realize that it was different here and so many times I was dressed in “odd” colors or colors that were not gender appropriate. It didn’t really matter to me much because I had no sense of what was going on. But it is definitely interesting seeing how babies are dressed now, with the name brand clothing from Gab, or pottery barn. As I started getting older, I then would have a say in what kind of clothes I would wear. It still was mostly based on what my parents wanted but at this point in time they also were aware of their surroundings. I was into basketball a lot and I would always want to go for the name brands, such as Nike, Adidas, Reebok and so forth. Even though I wouldn’t always get what I wanted I would still make an effort to convince my mom. I believe that one of the reasons that I wanted to dress that was because I wanted to show my athletic side that I recently discovered at that age. And I wanted to be read as the boy who played sports, or more specifically basketball. Even though I was young, I think in the back of my mind it did matter to me on what others thought and because of that I was very careful in choosing what I wore because it was a first impression that people would get. As the years went on, my style changed completely, to what it is I wear now. This is a more sophisticated or a more casual look. Nice jeans, nice shoes, and usually a collared shirt. I think the reason that I choose to dress this way, is one because I feel like it suits me. And I like having that sophisticated look, and I ...
