She later cries herself to sleep. In the story oranges, there is a boy who is tweleve years old. However in this story I feel that the term innocence does not apply to his age but to his care free attitude and his ability to carry himself as a young man. He is picking a girl up from her house and taking her on a date. "I smiled touched her shoulder, and led her down the street". That shows his innocence because it is a young boy on his first date attempting to get through the date smoothly so she can feel special. They are casually walking when they stop infront of a drug store and decide to go inside. "I turned to the candles tiered like bleachers, and asked what she wanted". This shows his innocence because he knows he only has a nickel but yet offers her anything despite the fact that he is not that financially stable. Since he is attempting to impress her, she then puts a piece of candy on the counter for a dime. "I didn't say anything I took the nickel from my pocket, then an orange and sat them quietly on the counter". His innocence is portayed with a clear vision because he put a orange on the counter almost as if he was very sure that it would be accepted. He then continues his date eating his orange and her eating her candy. In the story Fern Hill you see a poet who is thinking about his childhood and describing himself growing up. This is a perfect example of innocence because it tells you and gives you a vision of how he almost lived in his own world. "T...
