SYMPTOMS OF SCHIZOPHRENIA: Some people suffering from schizophrenia have delusions, others have hallucinations, and some have incoherent or disorganized speech, still others have all three symptoms. I am going to explain each one: A. Delusions are described as false, inaccurate beliefs, which a person holds onto even when he/she is presented with true and accurate information. B. Hallucinations are episodes of sensory perceptions, such as sights or sounds, which are not actually present. C. Incoherent or disorganized speech means the person may talk to himself/herself or do inappropriate laughter or rage. However, in order to know whether a person is suffering from schizophrenia, these symptoms must appear in a person for at least six months. IV. CAUSES OF SCHIZOPHRENIA: A. Biological causes: schizophrenia tends to run in some families, for example, a close relative of a person with schizophrenia is several times more likely to develop schizophrenia than the average person.
