If he absolutely had to steal food which he didn’t need to, he should have only stolen for his son, and only if he was about to die from starvation and then I’m sure that the Franks would given extra food to Peter until he got better. Mr. Van Daan should have ignored his hunger and just done something else to pass the time like reading. It also shows that he has little willpower for he couldn’t resist the urge to eat. When he was eating more food than everyone else, and his wife also gave him the tastier parts of the food than everyone else. Also the other people overlooked that he was eating the food because they were noticing that there was food missing, but they blamed it on the rats and inadvertently allowed Mr. Van Daan to get away with someone stealing food. Another way is when Mr. Kraler asked the Franks and Van Daans if they would take in another person. They could’ve not taken him in and make him either go to his call up notice or try to run or hide. But they took him in and showed a great act of kindness and compassion even though they barely had enough food for themselves, even though I think it may have been a stupid decision in the beginning and the long run because; first off they didn’t have enough food to feed themselves happily, second they would have avoided a lot of fights and arguments over lots of stupid things, and third it was a stupid idea in the long run because Miep and Mr. Kraler had to work harder to hide the Franks, Van Daan’s, and Mr. Dussel, also they had to get more food and supplies. My final reason is when the Franks chose to go into hiding Mr. Frank could have gone to a war veterans camp and been treated like a human being. He chose not to go for several possible reasons one of them being that he thought that conditions there would be unbearable for him and his family.
