... Helensborough and the Glasgow School of Art. They are now recognised as major works of international acclaim. His furniture and in particular his chair designs are the most greatly admired and are now very collectable. He did not receive this recognition at home. His deserved designs and architectural work had dried up. He spent his last years of life scraping a living - working as an artist. His paintings and his designs are now extremely valuable and collectable. Sadly he died in 1928. In 1901, Charles rennie Mackintosh had became a man named Keppies partner. Keppie kept his commissions to himself and also to his assistants, leaving Charles to find his own work. he done this through competitions. None were successful and are almost long gone and forgotten. However all seven of his drawings for Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral do still remain. Mackintosh’s project (one of at least two which the office submitted) was published in March in 1903, it was highly praised. Though it was not chosen as one of the final schemes to be further improved. It was a very important design of which mackintosh was proud. He had always was annoyed of its failure to get any further in the competition. Mackintosh made it at a slightly bigger scale. This one can now be found in the directors room of the Glasgow School of Art. My favourite design would have to be the clock as it has been through lots of consideration and thought which has been put into the design and material. It has a nice contrast of the metal numerals with a dark wood to compliment it. In the design it has a not to over the top feel to it so it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. These are the reasons why I have chosen the Willows Tea Room clock. Now one of other favourite designs is by Alphonse Mucha advertising JOB cigarette papers. The design is a woman with long, elaborate flowing hair. She is wearing a bright orange dress that reaches down to about her ankles. In her right hand she has a roll up and in the left she is showing off a packet of JOB's cigarette papers. The background pattern is a very fashionable design of the word JOB. He links the elaborate woman and the background by using the design...
