In the long term if the stress is sever enough stress related disease such as high blood pressure (resulting in heart attack and strokes), insomnia, ulcers, hypotension and asthma attacks (if already suffering symptoms of asthma) may occur. The results of disobeying this issue could cause the death of the participant /s either through depression related effects such as suicide or death due to a heart attack. The short-term results could cause depression, low self-esteem and withdrawal. These effects could destroy relationships with family and friends. Throughout this experiment the participants were deceived and lied to. The information, which they received during this scenario, was inadequate and would have resulted to unnecessary confusion and pressure. Due to the lack of information, which was supplied, the purpose of the experiment would have not been all that clear to the participants. The significance of this issue is confirmed in the code of ethics, ‘inform participants of the nature of and purpose of the research, and any effects that may be expected due to the research.’ The results of disregarding this issue would again put the participants under stress due to confusion. A very serious breach of this was shown in the scenario. Due to the violation of this issue the participants may not have been able to make the correct judgment, whether or not it is safe for them to partake in the experiment. The experimenter may have only supplied the information, which would given the impression that the study was safe therefore making the experiment unclear. The outline and possible emotional and psychological effects that the experiment may have on participants had to be specified so the participant (or guardian) could make the right decision and not be manipulated. Due to the lack of information a participant with an illness may sign up to partake in the experiment to earn some more money. Due to the lack of information he/she may not be aware that his/her medical condition may be worsened by the study. Therefore sickness of some participants may occur due to lack of information and not specifying the correct intention or purpose of the study, which will be taking place. For this experiment to have taken place parental consent must have been provided. Voluntary consent has to be provided for the participants to take part in the study. Due to the age of the participants parental consent is required as the participants are under the age of eighteen. The experimenter is in breach of the code of ethics because it is stated that they must ‘obtain voluntary written consent from participants, and consent from the participants’ parent or legal guardian if the participant is unable to give informed consent;’ .
