While pragmatic view plays a pivotal role in the development of society, at the same time, we should be cautious that too pragmatic a view is may also render people to merely focus on short-term profit, while ignoring long-term impacts. Simpler and more immediate options might exert positive effects around the corner, yet, we do not need to go further to evaluate the negative effects that come along with it in the near future. For example, in an attempt to gain more profits, business men would be blind to potential pollution that producing a certain item might cause. Or consider that peasants, in order to improve crop yields, abusively use pesticide.
