My Thought on Daddy-Long-Legs

.... If there is anything not catering to Mrs. Lippett, Judy will be severely scolded by her or even have nothing to eat as a punishment. Judy lives a very hard life there, but her destiny is changed when she is 17. She is sent to college by a very kindhearted anonymous gentleman. This gentleman asks for nothing from Judy but a letter once a month, and he hopes Judy will become a writer after graduation. In fact, this gentleman is Mr. Jervis Pendleton, who gets married with Judy in the end. And this novel is composed of Judy¡¯s letters to Jervis about her college life. In a sense, this novel is like a fairy tale. Judy is Cinderella and Jervis is the Prince. Judy¡¯s meeting with Jervis and falling in love with him is so lucky and sweet. But I¡¯d like to focus on Judy; because I feel Judy and I have something in common. One of Judy¡¯s letters says, ¡°Half the time I don¡¯t know what the girls are talking about; their jokes seem to relate to a past that everyone but me has shared. I¡¯m a foreigner in the world and I don¡¯t understand the language. It¡¯s a miserable feeling. I¡¯ve had it all my life. At the high school the girls would stand in groups and just look at me.
