The result of the operant that I am aiming for is a passing grade in psychology, and the way to achieve this is through using fixed-interval scheduling, studying in classroom-like conditions and reinforcement of the study habits. Studying for hours on end the day before the test is not the best technique to learning. Instead, I propose to set a time limit on studying every day. After that set time interval of, say, one hour, the result will be reinforced with a TV break. By using positive reinforcement the TV break appears more valuable to me. The TV is now a conditioned stimulus to the conditioned response of studying. The law of effect shows what I hope to achieve, a passing grade, and with this new study habit it should be true. Teaching myself to learn can be a difficult process. Currently I use bottom up processing; I concentrate on the little things before I understand the whole picture. By switching to top-down processing I may be able to gain a better grasp on the material at hand. Another factor with studying is the environment in which the studying occurs.
