... health. Satan was astonished at the fact that after all the pain and suffering, Job still had faith in God, and he also retained an open and inquisitive mind. He remained faithful and refused to curse God in his ordeal, in return God restored Job’s domestic animals, blessed him with many children and restored his health. Job’s story is a great example of how powerful God is, compared to the Satan. In the end, God gave Job a healthy and a prosperous life. God also gave many him children and granted abundance of property from what he had than before. Job is an example of some one who has a special relationship with God. That relationship made God challenged Jobs faith. Oedipus Rex in my opinion was singled out by God for special attention. Oedipus has to deal with his predetermined destiny. He is cursed from the beginning of his life when the oracle tells his fate upon his birth. It is predicted by Apollo, son of Zeus, that Oedipus will kill his father, marry his mother, and raise a family. Oedipus was born to Laius and Jocaste. They were the king and queen of Thebes. Upon his birth, his parents were shocked at a fortune-teller’s prediction of Oedipus’s fate. Naturally his parents could not have this oracle fulfilled, so they free themselves of Oedipus by apparently killing him. They gave him to a Shepard and told him to take him away, and kill him. The Shepard could not go through with killing him. Baby Oedipus ended up with king and queen in Corinth Polybos and his queens who were trying to have a son to inherit their throne. Young Oedipus will later inherited the throne of Corinth. As Oedipus grew up he ultimately heard of his fate. Oedipus, being the sympathetic person, he did not want to harm his parents in anyway. So he ran away from home hoping that this would end his predetermined fate, but this only made things worse. He killed his father in a road rage unknowingly. Oedipus gained the rule of Thebes by answering the riddle of Sphinx and marries his mother and raises a family. Oedipus suffered through the latter portion of his life when he found out the truth. His Fate was destined to come through; nothing could have altered his destiny no matter what he and his parents tried. Oedipus’ fate was pre-determined long before he ever had a chance to influence it in any way. This alone shows how strong God is. Also his parents believed in fate and predestination is especially how much the gods influenced life. Due to the gods, Oedipus had no chance of avoiding his destiny. God controlled-fate was finally challenged with the notion of Oedipus’s self-fulfilled destiny. Job and Oedipus Rex were both strong and influential men. God played a major role in both of their lives. Oedipus was a man of great authority, while Job was an ordinary man. Job had great trust in God and was always faithful in him even though he was suffering. Oedipus Rex and his family...
