Exaggeration is telescoping of thought while condensation is micro scoping of thoughts. These are the qualities, which have been praised a lot by T. S. Eliot in Metaphysical Poets. Exaggeration is caused by figurative language analogies while condensation results in aphorisms, clichés and epigrammatic sentences. An aphorism or cliché is a pithy statement packed with wisdom. Bacon’s style made him a distinctive and bright essayist. Dean Church says that the aphorism of Bacon “come down like the strokes of hammers. ” Bacon’s aphorisms are often telegraphic or stenographic in nature. For example, Nuptial love perfecteth it, wanton love corrupts and embarasseth it.
