Edward Feng Writing the Essay Pablo Picasso’s famous painting “The Blind Man’s Meal” depicts a dark image of a blind man sitting in the dark attempting to eat his food. The blind man is sitting in the dark holding a piece of bread in his left hand and reaching for a brown jar with his right hand; lying in between the piece of bread and the jar is an empty blue bowl. Wedged underneath the blind man’s right arm is a white cloth sprawled across the table. The blind man is wearing a dark blue long sleeved shirt and a dark blue cap that covers most of his short hair, which almost blends in with the darkness of the room. Picasso’s defined painting creates the blind man’s uncertainty as he reaches for the jar. Before the blind man is able to pick up the jar, he uses his fingertips to brush against the jar and confirm that it is indeed the object he is looking for. Although the painting is quite simple it provokes strong emotions to those that see it, reminding them of the trials the blind must face daily to accomplish as simple a task as eating.
