The boy

This was a pretty good, quick little overview of an aspect of the holocaust that I have found interesting. The section ends by saying this, “What remains persuasive, though, is that the tribute paid to a tragic Jewish resistance would be unnecessary if Europe’s Jews had not been so defenseless in the first place. ” I know this goes back to that Judeo-Roman war in which the Jews promised never to resist or fight again and learned to just let things happen to them in hopes of those bad things just coming to an end like they did in the past, but I feel like this quote is implying that the Jews should have been more militarily involved before all of this happened. And I’m not sure if that would have been a good idea or not. If the Jews were known to have a military, that may have given the Germans even more reason to feel threatened by them and perhaps caused the killing of the Jews to happen even sooner and with more persistence. But then again, the holocaust was just about as bad as it could possibly be. And the Jews have a military now and they are doing pretty well for themselves over in Israel. Because the holocaust happened, it’s easy now to say that they should have had a military or whatever, but at that time they really thought they were doing the best thing, and that could have been. Perhaps if they had a military, there would have been even more killing and then people would look back and say, well they should have just not had a military like they said they wouldn’t. 4/5 I have just reading chapter 10 in Approaches to Auschwitz.
