David Pelzer lived in a small suburb of San Diego, California. There, in his home, he spent countless hours being tortured by his abusive, alcoholic mother. During the first four years of his life, David lived a normal, blissful childhood. His family went on a yearly vacation to San Francisco, and stayed in a cabin there. His mother was very caring and loving. She planned exciting trips to zoos and picnics in the parks. She also taught them about many things they saw when going on day-trips. Around the age of five, David’s home-life started to change. His mother and father started to fight more and more. They also began to drink alcohol more frequently.
