Encourage students to teach

Dear College Dean, It is my understanding, that our school lacks students who would choose teaching as a major, and for that reason the school has come up with two proposals to encourage students to consider teaching as a major. One of these proposals offers to increase the salary for teachers and the second promises to pay for their education as long as they commit to teach for four years. As a student of this college there’s no doubt in my mind from my own experience dealing with other students that offering to pay for their tuition will encourage them to pick teaching as a major far more than increasing the salary for a teacher; for the following reasons. Having our education costs waived is more encouraging for any student to consider teaching than anything else. Many students even before they finish high school, feel discouraged about continuing their education since they know how expensive education can be. Students are not used to pay for their education before college, so they ask themselves why pay for education now? when they could get a job and start making money instead. Imagine how motivated students would be if they were offered a free tuition; they will realize that instead of having to worry about paying for education, they could save that money to invest in a vehicle, house, or their own business after they graduate from college; they wouldn’t mind what major it is as long as they can get an education and a better future life. In addition, parents would be an extra encouraging tool to motivate their sons and daughters to choose teaching as a major, since they are the ones who have to worry the most about paying for their school. Parents already have a bunch of bills to take care of, and paying for their children’s education is one of the biggest ones.
