The Valley of the Kings are lies on the West Bank of the Nile, across from Thebes which is located in Upper Egypt. For about 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, tombs were constructed for the king and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom. It consists of two valleys, the East valley and West Valley. In the East Valley most of the royal tombs were situated. The Valley of the Kings is know to contain 62 tombs and chambers. As you see all the tombs are numbered. They are numbered in order of discovery. Tombs were primarily used for burials from 1539 BC to 1075 BC. If you look at the tombs you will notice that they were cut into limestone following a similar pattern. The pattern was usually on the tombs usually had three corridors, an antechamber and a sunken.
