In response to the pressure from a coalition of advocacy groups and a nudge from the White House the FCC had set a rule stating that commercial TV stations must meet a requirement of at least three hours a week of core educational programming for children. The average amount of daily TV watching in America is 2.1 hours. What are the chances that out of these three hours of core educational programming shown a week, that a child watching around fourteen hours of TV a week would see these educational programs? Very little. Dennis Wharton says, we have done a good job with children?s programming, he also says that the National Association of Broadcasters voluntarily agreed to agree with the FCC rule.
